WSOC: Lasers tie Blazers

Chicopee, MA

The Lasell University women's soccer team tied the Elms College Blazers, 2-2 Saturday afternoon at Leary Field. The Lasers record moves to 5-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 in conference play.  With the tie, the Blazers move to 3-4-3 (2-2-2).

The Lasers best chance in the first came in the 33rd minute when a Blazer defender committed a foul and was called for it. Serena Speight (Biddeford, ME) stepped up to take the free kick, but it went just wide of the net.

The game was scoreless at the half.

Lasell had another chance in the 50th minute when the ball was sent down the left flank. Bobbi O'Guin (Newton, MA) made a play in the ball as did the Blazer keeper. The two met at the far edge of the box. O'Guin with the goalie on her back, turned to her left and curled the ball just wide of the right post of the net.

In the 63rd minute, Camdyn LaMarre was going 1v1 with her defender to get control of the loose ball. At the same time, the Blazer goalie came out and tried to beat Camdyn to the ball. As the goalie came charging, LaMarre flicked it over her into the net to make it 1-0 Lasers.

In the 72nd minute, Elms was given a free kick on the right side of the box. Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, MA) stepped up to take the free kick and shot it on goal. The Lasell keeper was not able to safely corral the ball and it dropped right in front of Ciersten Palumbo (Holbrook, NY). Palumbo, without hesitation, shot the ball into the net to tie the game.

In the 80th minute, Serena Speights had the ball on the left-hand side of the box. With a defender on her, she passed the ball diagonally to a wide-open Sarah Lynch (Warwick, RI). Lynch took one dribble and shot it into the right-hand corner of the net.

In the 90th minute, Elms was granted a free kick. The ball was crossed by Hailey Magierowski (Brimfield, MA) and found its way to Abby Goodnow (Goshen, MA). Goodnow, then passed the ball to Caroline Wilcox (Pomfret Center, CT) who flicked the ball into the back of the net to tie the game.

When the final whistle blew, it was a tie game 2-2.

Lasell finished the game with 20 shots, nine were on target.

Laser goalie Kyli Swan (Queen Creek, AZ) finished the game with four saves. Angela Picheo (Wood-Ridge, NJ) made seven saves for the Blazers.
