WSOC: Lasers defeat Chargers

New London, N.H.

The Lasell University women's soccer team defeated the Colby-Sawyer Chargers, 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Kelsey Soccer Field. The Lasers improve to 4-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play.  With the loss, the Chargers fall to 3-5-1 (2-2).

The Lasers had a scoring chance early in the game when at the 7:40 mark, Bobbi O'Guin (Newton, MA) shot the ball off of the crossbar.  Serena Speight (Biddeford, ME) then had a chance to knock in the rebound, but she headed the ball right to the Chargers goalkeeper Alexis Lebreton (Bangor, ME).

In the 38th minute, Julia Vaillancourt (Danvers, MA) crossed the ball in towards the box. The Charger's goalkeeper couldn't corral the ball and the rebound was picked up by freshman defender Brynn Foster (Londonderry, N.H.). Foster shot the ball and was able to find the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.

The Lasers led 1-0 going into the break.

Lasell added a second goal in the 54th minute when Serena Speight shot the ball high into the left side of the net, after a failed clear by the Charger's defense.

Four minutes later, Lasell would make it 3-0, when O'Guin, in the left side of the box, took a couple of dribbles and curled the ball into the lower right-hand corner of the box past the goalkeeper.

When the final whistle blew, the Lasers were on top 3-0.

Senior goalie Kyli Swann (Queen Creek, AZ) finished the game with two saves and Lebreton also made two saves for the Chargers.

The Lasers are back in action on Wednesday when they host Norwich at 4:00 p.m. Colby-Sawyer will also play on Wednesday as they travel to West Hartford to take on the University of Saint Joseph for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
