NEWTON, MA - On October 15th, 2011, the Lasell College women's soccer team will be hosting their second annual "Play 4 the Cure" event.  In honor of Maria La Francesca, the mother of head coach Vito La Francesca, the team will be holding a benefit game to raise money and increase breast cancer awareness. All proceeds will be donated to the Massachusetts General Hospital's Gillette Center for Breast Cancer.

Sporting pink jerseys, the Lasell College Lasers are scheduled to compete against Greater Northeast Athletic Conference contenders St. Joseph's College of Maine at 12pm on Taylor field. Prior to the game, fans will be given the chance to make a donation to take part in a penalty shot contest against one of the team's three goalkeepers. In addition, those who wish to participate will have the opportunity to "sponsor" the team—in other words, pledge a donation amount per goal that the Laser's score throughout the game. Other ways to donate will also be available.

Last year the Lasers had a record breaking season and became the only women's team in the history of Lasell College to win a conference championship and go  on to the NCAA tournament. This season, the team continues to be successful and holds an undefeated, 9-0, in-conference record.
