Late Goal Clinches Emerson’s GNAC Triumph

Boston, MA--  Lindsay D'Andrea  (Medford, NJ) broke a 1-1 tie in the 85th minute to give Emerson College a 2-1 victory over Lasell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Emerson's Rotch Field on Monday.

The tie-breaking goal was assisted by Lisa Viccione (Meriden, CT) and Meghan Foehl (Cheshire, CT) and was scored by D'Andrea in the lower right corner of the Lasers' goal.

D'Andrea had also opened the contest by scoring just 2:25 into the game on an unassisted breakaway down the middle of the field.   Lasell's freshman forward Jamie Harris (Lynnfield, MA) evened the game at one-all in the 34th minute on a breakaway of her own.  Harris tore down field to cleanly beat Lion net minder Marissa MacDonald (Winchester, MA).

Unfortunately for Lasell, despite outshooting the Lions 19-13 in the contest, Emerson had more on-target chances (10-8).  Laser goalie Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) made some great deflections and saves, particularly on two additional D'Andrea shots which she managed to reject in order to hold onto the tie for 85 minutes of the contest. Stickley finished with eight saves in the match, while MacDonald came away with seven.

Lasell is now 5-2-1 in GNAC play and 8-3-1 overall.  Emerson stands at 3-9 overall and 3-6 in the league.

Lasell plays next at home against Albertus Magnus College on Saturday, October 16th with a noon start.  The contest will be played on Taylor Field during the Lasell College Family, Friends and Alumni Weekend.  Senior day will also be celebrated on that date for the Lasers' three senior women's soccer players, Rachel Greene, Allyson Bushey, and Olivia Tsakiris.
