Lasers Fend Off Saints in GNAC Tussle

Boston, MA – Sophomore midfielder Mary Farley (Middleboro, MA) netted a pair of goals in the first half and junior midfielder Jessica Taylor (Standish, ME) tacked on a third as the Lasell College women's soccer team downed Emmanuel College, 3-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Roberto Clemente Field on Tuesday night.  The Lasers have won five out of their last six games and improve their overall record to 5-2, and 2-1 in league action.  Emmanuel remains on a four game slide, dropping to 2-7 overall, and 0-4 in GNAC play.

Farley registered the first of her goals in the 21st minute, getting Lasell off to an early start.  Taylor was noted for the assist on the game-changing tally.

Lasell continued to apply pressure on the Saints, nailing down their second mark within the following 15 minutes.  Farley struck again, this time receiving a helping pass from sophomore defender Emily Machado (Marshfield, MA) at 34:53. Lasell outshot Emmanuel 7-5 before the break, as well as earned four corner kicks, while the Saints produced none.

The scoring was held at a standstill for over twenty minutes in the second period, although the Lasers continued to outshoot the Saints, 7-5.  In the 78th minute, Lasell added to their goal total when Taylor kicked home an unassisted goal past Emmanuel's freshman keeper Beatriz Hassler (Jericho, VT) to complete the scoring.

Junior goalie Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) was awarded her first solo shut-out of the season, making six saves en route to the Lasers fifth victory. Hassler also made six saves in the defeat.

Lasell returns home this Saturday, September 25th, for their next event when they will host Rivier College at 2:30 p.m. on Taylor Field.
