Lasell Falls Short at St. Joseph's Maine

 

Standish, ME- The Lasell College women's soccer team fell short of their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon, as St. Joseph's College of Maine recorded a 2-1 decision over the Lasers.  

 

The Monks are undefeated in 2010 (5-0, 2-0 GNAC) while the Lasers were handed their first GNAC loss of the season, finishing the day with a 4-2 overall record and a 1-1 GNAC slate. 

 

After 47 minutes of a scoreless game, Jessica Needham (East Bridgewater, MA) and Mikayla Call (Portland, ME) fastened a pair of second-half goals for a St. Joseph's advantage.  Needham put the Monks on top when she finished a lofted pass from Call, at 47:04.  The seniors coupled for the second goal in the 66th minute as Needham footed the ball just inside the post, past a diving Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) in the Lasers' net. 

 

Liz McGeoy (Doylestown, PA) netted her second season goal for Lasell in the 69th minute, finishing on a connection from Reegan Brackett (Scarborough, ME). 

 

In the closing minutes of the conference conquest, Jordynn Frollo (Uxbridge, MA) and Meredith Hessler (Middletown, RI) were each hampered in their endeavors at the net by Monk rookie goalie Jackie Lorenzen (Windham, MA).  Lorenzen impeded the Lasers hopes to even the score tipping away Frollo's shot over the cross bar and diving to collect on Hessler's attempt.  The freshman netminder made 11 saves in the game. 

 

Lasell held advantages in shots (25-9), shots on goal (12-6) and corner kicks (3-1) in a losing effort and posted a whopping 19 shots in the second half alone. Stickley registered four saves in the loss. 

 

With the victory, St. Joe's improves to 4-1-1 against Lasell College in the history of the matchup.

For the Monks, four of the next five games are on the road beginning with a game at Suffolk University on Wednesday, September 22nd at 6:00 PM. Lasell will spring back into action Tuesday, September 21st, at Emmanuel College.
