Lasers Upend Cougars in Non-Conference Tilt

Newton, MA—  Freshman forward Sam Peck (Woodbury, CT) drove in the game-winning goal for the Lasell College women's soccer team who triumphed, 3-1, in a non-conference tilt with Clark University on Wednesday afternoon, at Taylor Field.

The first half proved to be entirely Lasell's as the hosts took an early lead on the scoreboard.  Clark was detained without a single shot while the Lasers fashioned eight chances, connecting on two in the period.  Lasell also had a 4-0 edge in corner kick opportunities.

The Lasers wasted no time taking the lead as Mary Farley (Middleboro, MA) inflicted the go-ahead goal with just 2:19 knocked off the clock. Farley returned a previously rejected shot which had bounced off the post to connect with the Cougars net.

Twenty-three minutes later, Peck received a pass from fellow freshman forward Jamie Harris (Lynnfield, MA) to protect Lasell's lead with a support goal which gave Lasell a 2-0 cushion into the half.

Lasell's net minder Ashley Parrelli (Marshfield, MA) went untested in the first period between the bars while Cougar goalie Joanna Clark (Windham, ME) weathered four shots on goal, making two saves.

A momentum shift came in the second period as Clark came out with renewed energy. The Cougars took seven shots to Lasell's one chance and maintained possession for the majority of the half.

Clark got on the board at 57:20 when Janelle Pasternak (North Brookfield, MA) drilled a shot from 10 yards out, unassisted.  The goal marked Pasternak's first of the season.

Lasell retaliated with the final goal of the game in the 83rd minute to seal the Lasers' victory. Allyson Bushey (Westminster, MA) launched a rocket from the left field that was untouchable as it ripped into the opposite corner of the Cougars net for the 3-1 final.

Parrelli made three saves in the net for Lasell and earned her second win of the season.  Senior defender Olivia Tsakiris (Killingly, CT) was prominent in the back field for the Lasers, making a phenomenal blocking save in the second period after Parrelli was taken out of net to challenge a shot.

Lasell returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday, September 18th when they travel to St. Joseph's College of Maine for an 11:30 a.m. match with the Monks.
