Newton, MA— Lasell
women's soccer continues on a three-game winning streak after
downing the Suffolk University Rams, 4-0, during the opening day of
Great Northeast Athletic Conference play, on Saturday afternoon at
Taylor Field. The Lasers overall record stands
at 3-1-0, while the Rams hold a 1-1-1 slate.
The Lasers were domineering
throughout the first period, holding the Rams to just four shots in
the half. Lasell took over six times as many shots (17), keeping
Suffolk goal keeper Emily Joyce (Easton, MA) occupied in the
net.
In the 20th minute, freshman
forward Jamie Harris (Lynnfield, MA) slid into a
shot which lurched off the cross bar and bounced back to
teammate Liz McGeoy (Doylestown, PA) on the
left end line. McGeoy quickly buried the shot to
the opposite corner of the net and the Lasers enjoyed a 1-0 lead,
at 20:12.
After a 43 minute scoreless
stretch spanning the first and second half, Lasell notched two more
goals in a five minute spell between the 63rd and 68th minutes. Harris lodged both
goals for the Lasers, first dribbling through the Ram defense to
connect from 10 yards out at 63:02, and then releasing a
firecracker from the top of the eighteen, at
67:52.
Jessica Taylor (Standish, ME) notched the
final mark of the day in the 84th minute off
a Jamie Osterberg(Monroe, CT) corner
kick.
Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) shut down
Suffolk's offense in the first half with two saves as
Lasell's goal keeper and Ashley Parrelli (Marshfield, MA) closed out the
second half with one save in the Lasers net. Lasell outshot the visitors
29-6 with Joyce collecting 12 saves in the
defeat.
Lasell returns to non-conference
action on Wednesday, September 15th when they host Clark
University on Taylor Field at 4:00 p.m.
