Lasers Fall to St. Lawrence University, 2-0, in First Game of 2010 Season

Canton, NY--  St. Lawrence University’s women’s soccer team scored two goals just under nine minutes apart in the first half and went on to a 2-0 win over Lasell in the opening game of the 2010 Lotto Tournament at the Saints’ Sandy MacAllaster Field Friday afternoon.

Scoring began when Marcelle Justison rebounded the ball which had ricocheted off the post from her initial shot and tapped it ahead to Erika Gobielle  who connected at point-blank range for the hosts just under the 21 minute mark in the contest.

Less than nine minutes later, Stephanie Sayward score the Saints insurance goal taking a feed from Elena Rogers and rocketing the ball into the top left corner of the Lasers’ net.

St. Lawrence dominated the offense with a 24-7 ratio in total shots over the Lasers, with the majority of Lasell’s offense coming from junior midfielder Jordynn Frollo (Uxbridge, MA).  The Saints also held a narrow 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Lasell’s junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) made nine saves in the defeat.  St. Lawrence netminder Abby van Geldern turned away four saves in the shutout victory.

Both teams return to action in the second day of the Lotto Tournament on Saturday, September 4th.  St. Lawrence plays at 1:00 p.m. against Geneseo while Lasell will face Clarkson in the 3:00 p.m. game.
