Lasers Shoot Down Gators

Chestnut Hill, Mass.-  Two quick goals allowed the Lasers of Lasell College to upend the Gators of Pine Manor College, 4-1, in GNAC play on Thursday afternoon at Hedley Field.  Five Lasers scored points in the contest, preventing the Gators from earning their first conference win.  Lasell's triumph gave them their seventh league win, leaving them at 10-6-2 overall this season.

Allyson Bushey (Westminster, Mass.) wasted no time putting Lasell ahead with a breakaway in the 12th minute, which she drilled to the lower right corner of the Gators net.  Not even four minutes later, junior midfielder Kaitlyn Fields (Stoneham, Mass.) was awarded a penalty kick, which she successfully completed, after being taken down in the box by Pine Manor's netminder Margaret Roberts (Allentown, PA).

The Lasers then took a 3-0 lead when Jessica Taylor (Standish, ME) intercepted a Gator pass and beat the remaining defenders and Roberts with a low shot across the net.

Pine Manor only took two shots in the half, though they were successful with one shot just one and a half minutes before the halftime whistle sounded.  Jess Kennedy (Lakeville, Mass.) took a hard shot to the left corner which nailed the post and bounced back for a second chance.  Kennedy's second attempt beat Lasell's keeper Ashley Parrelli (Mashfield, Mass.) for the Gator's sole score.

Lasell added an insurance goal late in the final five minutes thanks to a cross from Margaret Carvalho (Swansea, Mass.) to Meghan Moore (Conway, NH) who shot point blank from the middle of the goalkeeper box.

Lasell outshot Pine Manor more than four times over with a 28-6 advantage in the entire contest.  Lasell also garnered ten more corner kicks than the hosts.  Parrelli swatted away three shots by the Gators in the Lasers' net.

Lasell hits the road again this weekend for their next GNAC contest against local rivals Mount Ida College.  The Lasers and the Mustangs face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24th.
