LASERS FALL TO SAINTS IN GNAC QUARTER FINALS

The 6th seeded Lasers finished their 2008 season in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament's quarter finals, with a 1-3 loss to 3rd seed Emmanuel College, on Sunday afternoon.

Despite only having 3 total shots in the opening stanza of play, it was the Lasers who had the early advantage in the quarter final matchup.  In the 20th minute of play, Lasell's Alyssa Ferreri (Southbury, CT) headed a long cross from Ashley Lambert (Salem, MA) past the Saints' senior goalkeeper Laureyn Furtney (Barrington, NH).

Lasell would hold onto that lead through the half, due in large part to the play of senior keeper Jamie Remmers (West Islip, NY).  Remmers was exceptional in the net, stopping all ten of Emmanuel's first half shots, including a penalty kick attempt by Kate McKenna (Holyoke, MA), who had a prior perfect record on penalty kicks throughout her collegiate career.

After trailing 0-1 for the opening 10 minutes of the second half, Emmanuel tied the game.  McKenna brought the ball down the right sideline, and then crossed a pass to Amber Di Nucci (Assonet, MA) who struck on the Laser's net.

The Saints then tallied the game winning goal shortly afterwards when midfielder Meghan Long (Smithfield, RI) sent a direct kick past Remmers.  Long would tack on a supplementary goal in the 78th minute when she connected off a corner kick that curved into the back of the Lasers net.

Though the Lasers played strong all around, the Saints possessed a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks, and outshot Lasell 21-7.  Remmers completed the day stopping 14 total Emmanuel Shots.

This is the second year in a row the Lasers have made it to the GNAC women's soccer tournament quarter finals.  Lasell ends with a 10-5-2 record, and the hopes of an ECAC tournament bid.  ECAC pairings will be announced on Nov. 10th.
