The Lasers came out to an early advantage against the Emerson College Lions on Tuesday, but were unable to hold onto the lead, as they dropped the GNAC game, 1-2.
Lasell's rookie midfielder Meredith Hessler (Middletown, RI) scored first in the game, giving the Lasers the initial advantage. Hessler's goal was unassisted when she connected off a scramble and beat Emerson's goalkeeper Baileigh Wirzburger (New Bedford, MA).
The Lions retaliated and scored the first of their two goals in the 36th minute of the game. Genna Opatut (Freehold, NJ) tied the game at one with a shot from 15 yards out.
The game remained in a draw until 75:10, when Opatut struck once again for the Lions. Kendra Davidson (Newport Beach, CA) directed a corner kick to the Lasers net, which Opatut kicked in for the deciding goal.
The Lions dominated play throughout the contest, taking 33 total shots to Lasell's seven, and producing 7 corner kick opportunities to Lasell's one. Lasell's freshman goalie Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) played for 66 minutes before retreating from the field with an injury. Stickley made 11 saves during her time in goal. Jamie Remmers (West Islip, NY) replaced Stickley in net, picking up 5 saves in the remaining minutes.
Lasell is now 7-4-2 in overall play, and 6-3-2 in the GNAC. The Lasers have three games remaining in the regular season, including one conference matchup with Johnson & Wales.
Lasell takes on Wheelock College on Saturday, October 25th in non-conference action. The game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Taylor Field.
