Newton, Mass. - Elizabeth Stickley (Mashpee, MA) earned her first collegiate career shutout today at Taylor Field against the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College. The Lasers' are now 3-2-0 in the GNAC, and 4-3-0 overall, after today's 2-0 victory.
Alyssa Ferreri (Southbury, CT) scored the first of the Lasers two goals today, early in the first period. Ferreri timed the connection with a corner kick by Alaina Mitrano (Medford, MA) perfectly and used her body to direct the shot past Falcon's goal keeper Christina Oddo (East Haven, CT).
Allyson Bushey (Westminster, MA) then took a forty foot shot which sailed over Oddo to score the Lasers second goal, unassisted.
The Falcons had twenty two second half shots that, and more than doubled the Lasers total shots in the game, but to no avail. Brittany Collard (North Haven, CT) led the Falcons in shot opportunities with 9 total shots, 7 on goal.
Stickley, a 5'8" freshman, was unbelievable in goal, scooping up 11 saves in nearly 80 minutes, before an injury during a save caused her retreat from the field. Jamie Remmers (West Islip, NY) completed the game in the net for the Lasers, picking up 5 saves.
Stickley has a total of 45 saves in six games, and a 4-2-0 record. Ferreri is now the team leader in goals, with four, and points, with nine. This was Bushey's second season goal.
The Lasers have another conference home game on Tuesday, October 7th at 4:00 p.m. when they take on the Gators of Pine Manor College.
