Providence, RI- Lasell University's women's lacrosse team earned a hard-fought 10-9 victory over Rhode Island College in a thrilling matchup. The game, which went into extra time, saw Lasell hold on to secure the win after a tense second overtime period.
Lasell jumped out to an early lead, with Jade Sullivan scoring the first goal of the game at 9:44 in the opening quarter. Alice Rourke added another goal at 4:31 to give Lasell a 2-0 advantage. Rhode Island College responded quickly with a goal by Brie Macaruso at 3:49, but Lasell closed the first quarter strong, scoring two more goals, including another from Sullivan at the 53-second mark and one from Rourke just before the period ended, making it 4-1.
In the second quarter, Lasell extended their lead with goals from Emily Watson, who scored twice, and Ruby Cahill. Despite Rhode Island College's efforts, including a strong push from Claire Greene and Brie Macaruso, Lasell held a 7-5 advantage heading into the second half.
The third quarter saw Lasell maintain their lead, with goals from Kaitlin Bedell and Ruby Cahill. However, Rhode Island College wasn't backing down. Greene scored twice, cutting Lasell's lead to just two goals. The final quarter was intense, as Rhode Island College's Macaruso and Yekelchik found the back of the net, tying the game at 9-9 and forcing overtime.
In the first overtime period, neither team could break the deadlock. But in the second overtime, Lasell's Bedell scored the decisive goal just 21 seconds into the period, securing the 10-9 victory for the Lasers.
Lasell's offensive efforts were spread out across multiple players, with Sullivan, Rourke, Watson, Cahill, and Bedell all contributing to the scoreline. Watson finished the game with two goals and two assists, while Bedell and Sullivan each scored two goals. In goal, Joy Sayah made 14 saves to help her team secure the win.
