WLAX: Lasers Fall to Wildcats

NEWTON, MA — The Lasers were defeated by Johnson & Wales University in a decisive 13-3 contest on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Lasers to 5-4 on the season and 2-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

The game started with an early offensive surge from Johnson & Wales, who jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter. Despite strong efforts from the Lasers, including multiple solid attempts on goal, they were unable to cut into the deficit during the early stages of the game.

Lasell continued to battle, with Jade Sullivan scoring both of the team's goals in the period, including one just before the halftime buzzer. But, the team continued to struggle with capitalizing on their offensive opportunities.

In the second half, Lasell had a hard time containing the high-powered offense of Johnson & Wales, which extended its lead to 13-2 by the fourth quarter. The Lasers did manage one final goal late in the game when Kaitlin Bedell converted a free-position shot with 1:19 remaining, but it wasn't enough to mount a serious comeback.

While Lasell faced an uphill battle in terms of shots and possession, goalkeeper Joy Sayah had a strong outing, recording 13 saves on 26 shots faced. However, Johnson & Wales' offense proved too much to handle and the Lasers took home a loss on the day.

Up Next: Lasell will be back on the field this Wednesday, with a non-conference matchup against Rhode Island College.
