
Newton, MA – The Lasers hosted a thrilling non-conference matchup against the Rams of Suffolk University, coming out on top with a 14-11 victory in a nail-biting contest.
The game kicked off with a quick strike from sophomore Emily Watson, who put Lasell on the board just over two minutes in with a free-position goal. Suffolk responded immediately, and the two teams traded goals throughout the opening quarter. The final five minutes saw Lasell pull ahead, scoring two unanswered goals to end the quarter with a 4-2 advantage.
However, Suffolk came out strong in the second quarter, answering with five unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead. Despite the deficit, Lasell rallied late in the half, with graduate student Kaitlin Bedell and freshman Ruby Cahill each contributing goals to tie the game at 7-7 going into halftime.
The second half started with more back-and-forth action. Bedell scored again, assisted by Watson, giving Lasell an 8-7 lead. But Suffolk responded with three straight goals to regain control, pulling ahead 10-8. The two teams continued trading goals, and by the end of the third quarter, Lasell trailed 11-9.
The fourth quarter saw a shift in momentum, with Lasell's defense, led by junior goalkeeper Joy Sayah, shutting down Suffolk's offense. Sayah made key saves to keep the Rams off the board for the entire quarter. Meanwhile, Lasell's offense came alive, adding five goals in the final frame to seal the win, 14-11.
Watson led the Lasell offense with an impressive performance, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists. Bedell added five goals and forced three turnovers, while Cahill contributed four goals and an assist. Sayah was stellar in goal, registering 12 saves and two ground balls to secure the victory.
