New Haven, CT - The Lasell Lasers picked up their first win of the season on Thursday, defeating conference opponent Albertus Magnus by a final score of 14-1. The Lasers are now 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while Albertus Magnus is 0-1.
The Lasers opened up the scoring in this game four minutes in, when Emily Chapdelaine scored off of a pass from Teresa Kessner while the Lasers were down a player. After the Falcons tied things up less than a minute later, the Lasers retook the lead mid-way through the quarter on a Kaitlin Bedell goal assisted by Chapdelaine. The Lasers would score two more times in the quarter, first another goal by Chadelaine, and another from Teresa Kessner. Those goals were assisted by Kessner and Sam Jones respectively.
Holding a 4-1 lead headed into the second quarter, the Lasers offense exploded in the second period, scoring eight unanswered goals, including four by Kessner. Kaitlin Bedell added a pair in the quarter, while Chapdelaine and Alyson Barnes each scored once before the halftime horn. The Lasers led 12-1 at the break.
After a scoreless third period by both teams, the Lasers scored two more times in the fourth. The first from Chapdelaine assisted by Eileen McCarthy, and the second from Lavyna Braulinda DeOliveira Gomes, her first of her career.
Three different Lasers recorded hat tricks in Teresa Kessner (5 goals), Emily Chapdelaine (4), and Kaitlin Bedell (3). Kessner and Chapdelaine added to their big days by picking up three assists and two assists respectively. Goalie Joy Sayah picked up her first career save by making six saves.
