Women's Lacrosse: Sydney Brady strikes four times in 20-8 setback at Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Senior midfielder Sydney Brady scored four goals and sophomore attack Teresa Kessner finished with two goals and one assist for the Lasell University women's lacrosse team during a 20-8 loss at Great Northeast Athletic Conference-rival Norwich Saturday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Emily Chapdelaine compiled one goal and one assist for the Lasers (4-8, 3-6 GNAC), while leading all players with nine draw controls. Brady led the way with nine shots and her six shots on goal were tied for the most in the game. Sophia Gadsden found the back of the net once for Lasell.

Leading the way for the Cadets (9-3, 7-2 GNAC) were Emma O'Neill (5 goals, 1 assist), Maddie Etherton (3 goals, 2 assists), Valentina Drown (2 goals, 2 assists), Michaila Furchak (4 goals) and Allison Sturgeon (3 goals).

Brady found the back of the net twice for Lasell in the first quarter, as the score was knotted at 2-2 at the end of one. Norwich won the second quarter, 5-2, as Furchak finished with a hat trick in the period. A goal by Kessner with 3:35 remaining cut the Cadets' lead to 7-4 going into halftime.

The Lasers came out on a mission in the third, scoring the quarter's first four goals. Brady struck twice and Kessner contributed with one goal and one assist, as the visitors took an 8-7 lead with 7:15 left. Norwich tallied the game's final 13 goals to secure the win. O'Neill scored four times in the fourth quarter for the hosts.

Each team won 16 draw controls. Norwich led the shots' category, 45-19, and held a 53-18 advantage in ground balls. Etherton collected a game-high eight ground balls. Brady registered a game-leading and career-high four caused turnovers, to go along with three ground balls. Chapdelaine and Kaitlin Bedell each picked up three ground balls.

The Lasers will compete against GNAC-rival Rivier Tuesday at 4 p.m. on Grellier Field. The game will serve as the team's senior day, as Brady, Gadsden, Devin Zambruno, Courtney Sobolewski and Sophie Fistori will be honored for their commitment to the program.
