WLX: Lasell doubles up Albertus Magnus in GNAC victory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Seniors Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.) and Vanessa Pino (Methuen, Mass.) combined for nine goals and four assists Saturday morning as Lasell College rolled past Albertus Magnus College, 20-10, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse contest at Celentano Field.

The Lasers extended their winning streak to six games, improving to 13-3 overall and 8-2 in the GNAC, while Albertus Magnus fell to 5-11 overall and 2-8 in conference games. Both teams have one game remaining in the regular season.

McComb tallied six goals and one assist and Pino added three goals and three assists in the victory. Sophomore Kellie Matthews (Walpole, Mass.) contributed four goals and one assists, junior Chloe Shugrue (Worcester, Mass.) was good for three goals and an assist, and junior Kaeli Leddy (South Portland, Maine) posted a career-high four assists.

Freshman Madison Neilander (Wallingford, Conn.) led the Falcons with four goals and one assist, while junior Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) added three assists and junior Kaitlyn Ellsworth (Tolland, Conn.) tallied two goals and two assists. D'Agostino also grabbed a game-high eight draw controls and four ground balls.

Albertus Magnus scored the first goal of the game, but Lasell responded with the next eight in a row, including three by Matthews and two by McComb. The home team went on a little flurry with three of the next four goals, but Lasell answered with back-to-back goals and went on to lead 11-5 at halftime.

The teams traded two goals apiece in the opening minutes of the second half before Lasell rattled off five in a row to open up an 18-7 advantage midway through the half. The Falcons got no closer than nine goals the rest of the way.

Junior Morgan Choquet (Woonsocket, R.I.) earned the win in goal for Lasell, making four saves in the first half. Freshman Devin Zambruno (Plymouth, Mass.) came on for the second half and made seven saves on 12 shots.

Both teams wrap up the regular season with GNAC games at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, as Lasell visits Saint Joseph's College of Maine and Albertus Magnus hosts Anna Maria College.
