Lasell Women's Lacrosse suffers first loss of season at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday afternoon, falling to Roger Williams University, 20-3, in a non-conference game at Bayside Field.

Roger Williams put up 20 goals for the second straight game and improved its record to 4-0 this season, while Lasell drops to 2-1.

Senior Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) led off with a free position goal 14 seconds into the game for a quick 1-0 Lasell lead. Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) answered a minute later with a game-tying goal off a pass from Shayne Rivard (Easton, Conn.). Yandow came back with her second free position goal at the 26:31 mark for a 2-1 Laser lead.

However, that would be the last goal for Lasell over a 25-minute stretch, as the Hawks went on a 10-0 run for an 11-2 lead. Hogan and Emily Stoeppel (Brookfield, Conn.) combined to score five of the next six RWU goals as part of the run. The Hawk also got scores from Rivard, Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine), Carly Martin (Scituate, Mass.), Ashley Warren (Wilmington, Mass.), and Delana Erickson (Concord, N.H.).

Junior Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.) ended the run with a goal for Lasell with 1:31 left in the half, but Hogan and Stoeppel each added a tally to give the Hawks a 13-3 lead at halftime.

Roger Williams would hold Lasell scoreless in the second half, as RWU put seven goals on the board in the period. Stoeppel and Martin helped kick things off with two goals in the first five minutes of play. Hogan and Stoeppel each added two more goals in the half, while Erickson scored once to help push RWU to the 17-goal win.

Lydia Nelson (Center Moriches, N.Y.) had two saves in one half of play in the win. Addie Di Scipio (Falls Church, Va.) made three saves in the second half. Hogan (6 G, 4 A) and Stoeppel (7 G, 3 A) tied for a game-high 10 points for RWU. Nicole Palombo (Brewster, N.Y.) added three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Sophomore Morgan Choquet (Woonsocket, R.I.) had 12 saves in the Laser cage in the loss. Sophomore Chloe Shugrue (Worcester, Mass.) had two ground balls and one caused turnover.

Roger Williams heads to Springfield Saturday for a neutral site game against #16 SUNY Cortland. Lasell travels to Emerson on Saturday as well.
