Women's Lacrosse Honors Three Seniors in 19-5 Victory over Mount Ida
NEWTON, Mass. (4/29/17) -- The Lasell College women's lacrosse team earned the #3 seed for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) postseason tournament with a commanding 19-5 victory against Mount Ida College on Saturday afternoon. The Lasers conclude the regular season at 10-5 and 7-2 in the conference, while the Mustangs finish with a 13-4 overall mark and 6-3 in the GNAC, and earn the #4 seed for the playoffs.

Prior to the rivalry match, the Lasell women's lacrosse team honored its three graduating seniors, Brooke Bergeron (Lynn, Mass.), Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) and Maria Vasiliadis (Worcester, Mass.), who each played a key role in today's victory.

Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) led all players with a heavy stat line of six goals (all in the first half), four draw controls, and five caused turnovers. Vanessa Pino (Methuen, Mass.) won dix draws at the center circle, and scored five goals with one assist, while Taylor Falco (Hazlet, N.J.) held down a strong defense with five ground balls and a caused turnover.

The Lasers overwhelmed Mount Ida from the very start, running off eight straight goals (five from Yandow), before Brooke Scahill (Ledyard, Conn.) answered for the Mustangs. Scahill and Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) ended up with two goals apiece for the Mustangs.

Lasell led 12-1 at halftime and pushed their advantage up to as much as 15 when Pino scored her fifth goal of the game to make it 18-3.

Bergeron and Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) each played a half in goal for the Lasers and made nine stops apiece, with Bergeron earning the victory.

Jessica Henry (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Eleanor Garvey (Elkridge, Md.) also shared goaltending duties, as Garvey made seven saves in the final 27:38 of play.

Lasell draws #6 Simmons for the GNAC quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 3. Draw control between the Lasers and the Sharks is set for 3:00 p.m. on Grellier Field.
