Lasers Open GNAC Play with 7-6 Win over Emmanuel

NEWTON, Mass. (3/25/17) -- The Lasell College women's lacrosse team held on to win a defensive battle in Saturday afternoon's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener on Grellier Field, scoring four times in the first half en route to a 7-6 decision over the Saints of Emmanuel College.

The Lasers snap a two-game losing streak to move to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in GNAC play, while the Saints remain winless at 0-5.

Junior Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) scored three goals on four shots on goal to lead the Laser offense, while sophomore Vanessa Pino (Methuen, Mass.) added a pair. Senior Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) made 11 saves, her second-highest total of the season.

Emmanuel senior Savannah Lundwall (Fiskdale, Mass.) tallied the game's first goal at the 25:05 mark, but Lasell responded with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead just past the halfway point of the opening half. Pino posted the tying and go-ahead scores, while Yandow gave the Lasers a two-goal cushion.

Lundwall and Yandow traded goals just about a minute apart, while Emmanuel junior Stephanie Warn (Hanson, Mass.) cut Lasell's advantage to 4-3. Lasell freshmen Brooke Landry (New Milford, Conn.) and Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals to open the second, giving the Lasers a three-goal advantage, their biggest of the afternoon.

Warn again cut a Lasell deficit with 15:26 left in regulation, but Yandow scored the eventual game-winner just 11 seconds later as Emmanuel netted the game's last two goals.

For the Saints, Lundwall scored three times on five shots, while Warn scored two. Sophomore Bethany Bonilla-Colon (Milton, Mass.) made eight saves.

The Lasers return to action on Saturday, April 1 with an 11:00 a.m. road game against the Sharks of Simmons College, while the Saints have a non-conference contest scheduled with Framingham State on Wednesday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m.
