Women's Lacrosse Downs Salve in Comeback Fashion, 10-8

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (3/2/17) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team dug out of two four-goal deficits and rallied to a 10-8 win over Salve Regina on Thursday evening at Gaudet Field. The Lasers start the year off at 1-0 for the second season in a row, while the Seahawks fall to 1-1.

Senior goalkeeper Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) made a career-high 15 saves with a 65.2 save percentage, as the Lasers unloaded after halftime, outscoring the hosts 8-3.

Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) registered her first hat trick of the season – commencing an effort to match last season's eight hat tricks – with a trio of assists, and five draws. Riley Musial (Clinton, Conn.) tacked on three of her own, while Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.), Amanda Brock (North Haven, Conn.), and Kaeli Leddy (South Portland, Maine) were all contributors to the Lasers' offense.

The Seahawks opened the wind-struck contest with three goals to Lasell's zero, from Kaitlin Gillespie (2), and Maddie Villareal before Yandow assisted on Brock's score to put Lasell on the board. Down 5-1, McComb and Musial pulled Lasell within three, but Villareal added an unassisted marker at 25:08 to bring the lead back to four, 7-4.

Lasell would then score four unanswered goals – including the equalizer by Yandow and go ahead by Musial – holding on to their first lead of the game until the clock expired. Salve pushed two more goals into the back of the net, but Lasell countered with two of its own, en route to the 10-8 final.

Delaney earned the win in net in the full 60 minutes of play and advances to 1-0, while Bridget Newbury made three saves in the loss, and drops to 1-1.

Lasell held a 27-17 margin in shots, a 16-8 advantage in ground balls, and converted on 1-of-2 free position attempts.

The Lasers jump back into non-conference action on the road on Sunday, March 5 with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Wheaton College.
