Women's Lacrosse Handles Rivier 19-7 on Senior Day

NEWTON, Mass. (4/30/16) – The Lasell women's lacrosse team powered to a 19-7 victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field. The Lasers close out the regular season at 10-6 and 6-3 in conference play, while the Raiders drop to 6-11 overall and 3-6 in the GNAC.

Prior to today's league tilt, Lasell College honored the seven graduating seniors on the women's lacrosse team for their outstanding contributions to the program. Ashley Gleason (Suffield, Conn.), Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.), Ashley Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.), Stefanie Welch (Hancock, N.H.) Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.) Taylor Dooley (Barnstable, Mass.) and Lisi Anczok (Buffalo, N.Y.) have demonstrated leadership and dedication to the Lasell women's lacrosse team, and we look forward to following their future success.

Munnelly dominated the center circle with a game-high eight draw controls and also added a goal and an assist in the effort. The senior class excelled in the victory as Munnelly joined Anzcok, Dooley, and Welch with a single marker, while Pechulis and Doherty tossed in a pair of goals apiece. Sophomore Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) led all players on the field with four goals and three draws while Anczok dominated defensively with four caused turnovers.

For the Raiders, senior Paxton LaRocque (Londonderry, N.H.) met Yandow with four goals, while junior Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.), freshman Ashley Manzo (Windham, Mass.) and sophomore Catherine Connolly (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in for the remaining points.

Yandow added three goals in the opening frame to get a 6-0 jump on the Raiders in the ninth minute. Wickens put the Raiders on the board with 19:35 on the clock on converted free position attempt before the Lasers tacked on five goals to the Raiders' two, heading into the halftime break.

After two Laser goals and one from the Raiders to open the second half, sophomore Danielle Chambrelli (Cheshire, Conn.) made a cut to the crease and finished on a feed from Doherty to put Lasell up 14-4 to keep the clock ticking until the final whistle. Manzo added an unassisted marker with 18 seconds left in regulation, but the Lasers hot offense secured the 19-7 win on their final regular season home game.

Junior Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) (4-2) backstopped the Lasers in the win with three saves on six shots to frame, while classmate Brooke Bergeron (Lynn, Mass.) stopped three shots in second half relief. Raiders' freshman keeper Courtney Laperriere (Keene, N.H.) (6-11) took the loss, saving 11 of 30 shots on target.

The Lasers secure the four spot in GNAC standings, and whille host No. 5 Simmons College in the postseason quarterfinal at 3:00 p.m.
