Women's Lacrosse Topples Cadets 19-6 for 1-0 Start in GNAC Play

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team opened their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule with a win at Norwich University, 19-6, at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium Saturday afternoon. Lasell improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the GNAC, while Norwich drops to 3-2 on the year and 0-1 in GNAC standings.

Senior Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.) and freshman Vanessa Pino (Methuen, Mass.) each netted four goals for the Lasers and senior Ashlee Pechuils (Westfield, Mass.) followed up with a hat trick performance. Freshman Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.) and senior Ashley Gleason (Suffield, Conn.) scored a pair of goals while freshman Jillian Vergados (Tyngsboro, Mass.), senior Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.), sophomore Danielle Cambrelli (Cheshire, Conn.) and senior Taylor Dooley (Barnstable, Mass.) each recorded a goal in the win.

Sophomore Teresa Segreti (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) netted a hat trick on the day, while freshman Kathryn Albretsen (Caldwell, N.J.) netted two goals and junior Chapel Guarnieri (Pepperell, Mass.) followed up with a goal performance.

Lasell scored five unanswered goals, two by Pino and McComb, for the 5-0 lead before Guinieri and Segreti scored back-to-back to put the Cadets on the board. The Lasers would score seven straight to make it a 12-2 game, triggering the goal differential rule of keeping the clock running. Albretsen would quickly score the Cadets' third goal of the first half, only to be outscored by the Lasers, who maintained possession of the ball the entire half, with two goals for the 14-3 lead at the break.

Norwich would score three goals in the second half, two from Segreti and one from Albretsen, but the Lasers piled on four more goals as the second half was a full running time before Lasell walked away with the 19-6 victory.

Junior Brooke Bergeron (Swampscott, Mass.) collected her fourth win of the season after stopping two shots for Lasell, before classmate Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) took over in the second half and came up with three saves on six shots. Freshman Janice Bolton (Stow, Mass.) started in goal for the Cadets, stopping three shots before being switched with classmate Danielle Boucher (South Burlington, Vt.) for the remainder of the game. Boucher come up with seven saves

Lasell managed to clear the ball successfully 15 out of 16 attempts and had a 19-16 advantage on ground balls over Norwich. The Cadets outdueled Lasell on the face, winning 15 draws to the Lasers' 11, but would give up 19 turnovers with Lasell pulling off 37 shots on the day to the Cadets' 19.

Both teams return to non-conference action on Tuesday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m. Lasell will host Nichols College, while the Cadets welcome Plymouth State University.
