Yandow Scores Five to Hand BSU First Defeat 10-6

NEWTON, Mass. (3/22/16) – Lasell women's lacrosse sophomore Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) netted five goals in a 10-6 victory against Bridgewater State University on Tuesday afternoon at Grellier Field. The Lasers improve to 3-2 on the year while the Bears suffer their first loss of the season and shift to 4-1.

Yandow led the offensive attack with three additional ground balls, a trio of draw controls, and two caused turnovers, while freshman Vanessa Pino (Methuen, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of goals of her own in the winning effort. Junior Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.) and freshman Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.) and Riley Musial (Clinton, Conn.) also added a goal apiece.

For the Bears, senior Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) registered her three hat trick of the season with six ground balls, while freshman Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) added two goals. Junior Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) scored the remaining goal for Bridgewater and totaled five ground balls in the deficit.

Yandow scored her first of many 5:08 into the contest on an unassisted rocket to frame. The Lasers would net four more goals to the Bear's two, three on the free position attempt, to lead the visitors 5-2 heading into halftime. After Ettridge caused a turnover on the Lasers preventing the clear across the field, freshman Kerrin O'Leary (Millbury, Mass.) found Renault for her 18th of the season to pull within two, 6-4.

Eight minutes of scoreless play passed before senior Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) directed Doherty's 7-4 marker, igniting a three-goal charge for Lasell. With 1:14 left in the contest, Yandow escaped from a sea of Red defenders, and found the back of the Bears' twine for the last Lasell goal.

Junior Brooke Bergeron (Swampscott, Mass.) stopped a career-high 13 goals in between the pipes for the Lasers, earning her third win of the season (3-1). Junior netminder Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) suffered the loss in net for the Bears, stopping 13 of 23 shots.

The Lasers will head to Westfield State on Thursday, March 24 with draw control set for 7:00 p.m.
