Women's Lacrosse Goes 1-1 in Trip to San Juan

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico (3/16/16) – The Lasell women's lacrosse team split a pair of games with Plymouth State and Guilford College during their spring break outing to Puerto Rico. After the trip, the Lasers will return to Boston boasting an overall record of 2-2.

Plymouth State: 14 Lasell: 6

The Lasers saw two goals from sophomore Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.), while freshmen Jordan McComb (Cumberland, R.I.) and Riley Musial (Clinton, Conn.) teamed up with seniors Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) and Taylor Dooley (Barnstable, Mass.) for one goal apiece.

For the Panthers, sophomore Sam Sullivan (Canton, Mass.) scored a tremendous six goals to lead the winning attack. Sophomore Megan Tingley (Natick, Mass.) registered a trio of goals, an assist and five draw controls, while junior Caroline Vonachen (Framingham, Mass.) put away a pair of goals, two caused turnovers, and a helper.

The Panthers opened the contest with three unanswered goals, two from Sullivan, where the Lasers responded with two goals of their own to slice the deficit in half. Sullivan struck again with help from Tingley to head into the halftime break leading 6-2.

Roles reversed in the opening minutes of the second half, as Lasell scored three straight goals from Pechulis, Yandow, and Musial. The Panthers went on a torrid 8-1 point run in the remainder of the half, with Sullivan on a final three unassisted shots to frame to seal the victory for P-State.

Junior Brooke Bergeron (Swampscott, Mass.) suffered the loss in net for Lasell, while junior Meg Brault (South Windsor, Conn.) made nine saves in net for the Panthers to earn the victory between the pipes.

Lasell: 12 Guilford: 11

Yandow again led the attack with three goals, two ground balls and a caused turnover. McComb, Dooley, freshman Vanessa Pino (Methuen, Mass.) and senior Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.) netted two goals in the victory, while Pechulis added a single goal and four caused turnovers.

Guilford saw two hat tricks in the effort, as Marina Bailey and Demming Carlow combined for six goals with Bailey scooping up four additional ground balls. Summer Fowlers, Amanda Dionne, and Holly Kozaek combined for the rest of the Quakers' scoring.

The Lasers had a hot start in their final contest of the trip, as Mccomb, Dooley, Pechulis, and Pino added four goals uninterrupted goals with 16:53 left in the half. Bailey and Carlow drove to net to score two unassisted tallies for Guilford before the half, to trail Lasell 5-3 heading into the break.

The Quakers switched gears in the second stanza, as the Fowlers, Dionne, and Carlow trio quickly crept up on the Lasers' lead to trail by a single goal, 8-7. Bailey would net the 11-11 equalizer with 6:49 remaining in the contest, where Yandow took an unassisted shot to the back of the twine just over a minute later to ensure Lasell's 12-11 victory.

Bergeron earned the win in the cage for Lasell with six saves before junior Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) recorded two saves in 21 minutes of relief. For the Quakers, starter Sammi Milbourn suffered the loss with 11 saves and ten goals against in 55 minutes played, as Sarah Sedaghat played the final 4:23 of the contest with two goals against.

The Lasers will head back to Boston tomorrow and will return to Grellier Field on Tuesday, March 22 for a non-conference contest vs. Bridgewater State at 4:00 p.m.
