Women's Lacrosse Closes out Regular Season with 18-6 Win over Albertus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (4/18/15) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team posted an 18-6 win over Albertus Magnus College Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field. With the win, the Lasers close out their regular season at 10-5 and 8-1 in the GNAC, while the Falcons finish at 1-14 overall and 0-9 in conference play.

Freshman Danielle Chambrelli (Chesire, Conn.) unleashed on the field for Lasell, netting six goals and owning two draw controls. Junior Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.) and senior Caitlyn Brecher  (Chesire, Conn.) both added a hat trick, while senior Toni Minelli (Newington, Conn.) and freshman Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) chipped in with a pair of goals in the win.

The Falcons were paced by junior Kelly Kennedy (North Branford, Conn.) and rookie Nikki Kern (Wallington, Conn.), who each added two goals apiece, while freshman Jenny Luna (Brentwood, N.Y.) and junior Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) tallied a single marker in a losing effort.

The Lasers scored seven unanswered goals in the opening frame, allowing a single Falcons goal by Kern with 13:00 left to go. Lasell rattled off four more goals – three from Chambrelli – to close out the half with the 12-1 lead.

Albertus was able to score five goals in the second half compared to the Lasers' six, but the effort was unjustified as Lasell came out with the 18-6 victory.

Senior Alexa Katsignias (Amherst, N.H.) and sophomores Brooke Bergeron (Swampscott, Mass.), and Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mas.) shared the cage for the Lasers for a combined eight saves.

The Falcons held a slim 14-12 advantage in draw controls, while the Lasers picked up 10 ground balls compared to the Falcons' six.

The Lasers will host the GNAC Quarterfinal game vs. Norwich University on Wednesday, April 22 with draw-control slated for 3:30 p.m.
