Women's Lacrosse Topples USJ 19-4

Newton, Mass. (4/15/15) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team knocked off the University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.), 19-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Grellier Field. The win improved the Lasers record to 9-5 overall and 7-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play, while the Blue Jays dipped to 4-7 on the year and 1-7 in league games.

Nine different Lasers finished in the scoring column, paced by junior Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.)  with four goal and two assists. Senior Toni Minelli (Newington, Conn.), junior Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.), and freshmen Danielle Chambrelli (Cheshire, Conn.) each tallied three times for Lasell, while junior Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.) finished with four assists and senior Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) chipped in two goals and one assist. Freshmen Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) notched two goals and two assists to go with four ground balls and four draw controls and Bridget Munnelly collected a game-high eight draw controls. Senior Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, N.H.) made a pair of saves while earning the win for Lasell, before sharing time in the net with sophomores Brooke Bergeron (Swampscott, Mass.) and Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) who made two and three saves respectively.

The Blue Jays were led by the senior duo of Rachel Foster (Newington, Conn.) and Dayna Gambino (Newington, Conn.), who each scored a pair of goals and scooped up four draw controls, Foster also added an assist. Emily Bourassa (Bristol, Conn.) took the loss in goal for the University of St. Joseph's despite stopping 20 shots on the afternoon.

After a quiet opening few minutes Lasell began pulling away, tallying five goals in a six minute span concluded by a Bri Daley (Watertown, Conn.) goal with 20:16 to play in the first half. Gambino got the Blue Jays on the board with her first goal of the day with an unassisted effort a minute later to cut the lead to 5-1. Lasell reeled off six more goals to cap the first half action, taking an 11-1 lead into the half.

Rachel Foster found the back of the net with a free position shot for USJ less than a minute into the second half, to cut the deficit to single digits at 11-2. Lasell responded with four straight goals including a pair by Pechulis to put the game away, closing out the contest with a 19-4 victory.

USJ will wrap up their regular season on Saturday April 18th, when they visit Mount Ida College at 12:00 p.m., while Lasell closes their regular season with a visit to Albertus Magnus College on Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. start time as well.
