Lasers Ease Past Norwich 18-5 in GNAC Women's Lacrosse Action

NEWTON, Mass. (4/1/15) – The Lasell College Lasers eased passed the Norwich University Cadets in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse match up 18-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Grellier Field.  The Lasers sail to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in GNAC play, while the Cadets drop to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Senior Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) scored a game-high five goals in the Lasers' victory with four ground balls.  Junior Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) tallied a hat-trick, three assists, four ground balls, and five draw controls, while senior Bri Daley also tallied a hat-trick and a single assist. Freshman Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.), junior Stefanie Welch (Hancock, N.H.), and freshman Danielle Chambrelli (Cheshire, Conn.) each chipped in with two goals apiece, as Lasell saw a single marker from junior Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.).

Senior Gina Conroy (Amherst, N.H.) scored a team-high two goals in the Cadets' loss, while senior Hope Royce (Washington, Vt.), junior Larissa Gokey (St. Johnsbury, Vt.), and freshman Teresa Segreti (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) each chipped in with one goal apiece. 

The Lasers scored early and often, with Minelli opening up the offensive spurt from a feed by Yandow four minutes in. Lasell went on a 6-0 run in the following plays, courtesy of Pechulis, Dohert, Chambrelli, Brecher and Daley. With 2:19 left to go in the first, Daley added the final Lasell goal before Norwich got on the board via Gokey to head into the break trailing the hosts 8-1.

The Cadets attacked early in the second stanza with a goal from freshmen Segreti at 27:26, but Brecher was quick to respond with a rocket from Minelli for her second of the day. Three consecutive unassisted goals from Daley, Brecher, and Welch pushed Lasell past Norwich 14-2 with 17:40 left in regulation. 

Two goals from Conroy and a free position shot from Royce closed out the scoring for Norwich, as Lasell grabbed an eventual 18-5 victory.

Cadets' junior goalkeeper Courtney Hudson (Burke, Vt.) ended the day with 18 saves of the 36 shots on net, while the duo of senior Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, N.H.) and sophomore Brooke Bergeron (Swampscott, Mass.) totaled four saves in the Cadets' 10 shots attempted. 

The Cadets look to take on the Castleton State Spartans on Friday, April 3 with a 5:00 p.m. start time., while the Lasers will travel to Dudley, Mass. on Saturday, April 4 at 11:00 a.m. for a non-conference match-up against Nichols College.
