Lasers Cruise Past Mustangs 19-4 in GNAC Women's Lacrosse Action

NEWTON, Mass. (03/24/15) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team sailed over Mount Ida College 19-4 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match up this afternoon at Grellier Field. Lasell remains undefeated in conference play at 3-0 and 4-2 overall, while the Mustangs even their GNAC record at 2-2 and 2-4 on the season.

Junior attack Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.) led the Lasers with four goals, three ground balls, and a caused turnover. Senior defender Bri Daley (Watertown, Conn.), and junior defender Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) each tallied a hat-trick for the Lasers, while freshman attack Danielle Chambrelli (Cheshire, Conn.), senior middy Toni Minelli (Newington, Conn.), and junior midfielder Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.) each tacked on two goals as well. Senior attack Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) added a single point for the Lasers, while junior defender Stefanie Welch (Hancock, N.H.) and junior middy Lisi Anczok (Buffalo, N.Y.) each scored their first goal of the season.

Senior attack Amanda Bowen (Randolph, Vt.) scored all four goals for the Mustangs, scooped up three ground balls and caused two turnovers this afternoon.

Lasell put away seven unanswered goals in the first half before Bowen answered Doherty's goal with 7:49 left to go to get the visitors on the scoreboard. The Lasers added their last first-half marker when Munnelly drove to the net after a pass from Chambrelli to put the Lasers up 9-1 heading into the break.

Minnelli scooped up a ground ball 1:09 minutes into the second half that led to Daley's second goal, giving the hosts the 10-1 advantage. Bowen put the visitors back on the board at 22:24 with an unassisted goal, however the hosts responded with nine unreciprocated goals for a 19-2 cushion. Bowen found the back of the net in consecutive goals for the Mustangs, adding the final point at 2:58 off a feed from junior defender Samantha Basler (Plymouth, Mass.).

The Lasers went 7-for-9 in clear attempts compared to the Mustangs 5-for-10, while the Lasers held a 35-24 margin in total shots.

Senior goalkeeper Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, N.H.) captured her fourth win of the season (4-2) with 11 saves on 13 shots faced, while Mustangs' keeper Sydney Fredette (Hudson, Mass.) took the loss (2-4) with nine saves on 28 shots.

Both teams resume non-conference home-contest play on Thursday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m. The Lasers will welcome Westfield State University, while the Mustangs host the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
