Women's Lacrosse Send Seniors Off with 18-3 Win over Albertus Magnus

NEWTON, Mass. (4/19/14) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team secured the fourth seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament with an 18-3 victory over Albertus Magnus in their final regular season game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field. The Lasers climbed to 9-7 overall and 7-3 in GNAC games while Albertus slipped to 2-9 on the year and 1-9 in league contests.

Jen Lemoine (Trumbull, Conn.), Stefanie Welch (Hancock, N.H.) and Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.) each tallied a hat-trick for Lasell while Toni Minelli (Newington, Conn.), Lisi Anczok (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) each scored two goals and handed out an assist in the victory. Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, N.H.) was credited with the win in goal for Lasell, while Brooke Bergeron (Swampscott, Mass.) made three saves and Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) stopped four shots in relief appearances.

Halle Altieri netted a hat-trick for the Falcons and Erika Blechert made 13 saves in goal on the day.

Doherty and Wuorio opened the scoring for Lasell, tallying goals in the game's first minute before Altieri got Albertus Magnus on the board when she converted a free-position attempt with 25:27 on the clock to make it 2-1. Lasell closed the half on a11-0 run, taking a 13-1 lead into intermission. The Lasers tacked on five more goals in the second half to two for Albertus Magnus, as senior Solange Carpenter capped the Lasers scoring with the team's 18th goal.

The senior class of Britney Wuorio, Jen Lemoine and Solange Carpenter were recognized before the game for their contributions to the Lasell women's lacrosse program as the trio was playing their final regular season home game.

Lasell will host Rivier University on Tuesday April 22nd at 3:30 p.m. in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinals at Lasell's Grellier Field.
