Player of the Year and Coach of the Year Headlines Women's Lacrosse All-GNAC Honors

Newton, Mass. (4/29/13) - The Lasell College women's lacrosse team captured the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship on Sunday afternoon, capping a perfect season in league play, finishing 9-0 in the GNAC regular season and with three wins in the postseason. The program continued to add awards with the release of the 2013 GNAC All-Conference teams.

Junior Britney Wuorio was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and she was joined on the First Team by senior midfielder Ashley Slattery, sophomore attacker Caitlyn Brecher and freshmen defender Bridget Munnelly. Junior defender Jen LeMoine was selected to the All-GNAC Second team and freshmen attacker Stefanie Welch was selected to the GNAC Sportsmanship team. Head Coach Cait Connolly was named the GNAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season after leading the Lasers to a 15-3 record and their first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament.  

Wuorio leads the nation in points with 129, on 83 goals and 46 assists for the 2013 season. Nationally Wuorio is ranked 3rd in points per game, 4th in goals scored, 16th in goals per game, 17th in assists and 25th in goals per game. She was the leading goal-scorer in the GNAC, was second in the league in assists and she notched the 200th goal of her college career during the year. 

Slattery was named to the GNAC First team for the third consecutive season and is in the midst of another proflifc season. She ranks third in the country in points with 115, 9th in assists, and 14th in points per game and assists per game. She ranked third in the GNAC in goals with 62, and first in the league in assists with 53 on the year. Ashley led the team in groundballs with 57 and caused turnovers with 26 while ranking second on the team in draw controls with 61.

Brecher was also named to the First Team and finised third on the team in goals with 40, assists with 11 and points at 51. The sophomore boasted the highest shooting percentage in the GNAC, for players with at least 10 points, at 69%. 

The trio combined to help the Lasers rank second in the nation in goals per game at 17.61 and third nationall in total points with 458.

Freshmen Bridget Munnelly was named to the All-GNAC First team as a defender, scoring seven goals and passing out eight assists while finishing second on the team in ground balls with 47 and third on the team in draw controls with 52 and caused turnovers with 12.

Junior Jen Lemoine helped anchor the Lasers defense, and was named to the All-GNAC Second Team. Lemoine proved adept in helping slow the oppositions transition attack and giving the Lasers strong leadership on  an otherwise young group of defenders.
