Lasell’s Slattery Earns GNAC Tourney MVP

Newton, Mass. (4/28/13) – Lasell College senior midfielder Ashley Slattery continued to add to her accolades in the final year of her Lasers career, being named the most valuable player in the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament. Slattery finished the three game tournament with 11 goals, eight assists, eight groundballs, 10 draw controls and four caused turnovers. The senior from Weymouth, Mass. helped spear head the Lasell attack which combined to score 56 goals in the three tournament victories.

Four members of the Lasers were named to the all-tournament team, including Britney Wuorio (13 goals, 8 assists, 7 groundballs, 7 draw controls), Bridget Munnelly (3 goals, 3 assists, 13 groundballs, 11 assists, 4 caused turnovers), Rebecca Stanton (5 goals, 1 assist, 9 groundballs, 16 draw controls6 caused turnovers) and goalkeeper Sammy Long (17 saves).

Runner-up Simmons College placed three members on the All-Tournament team led by Rachel Wallace (11 goals, 1 assist, 9 groundballs, 1 draw control, 5 caused turnover), Seneca Martensson (5 groundballs, 5 draw controls, 4 caused turnovers), and goalkeeper Crystal Derosier (29 saves).

Semifinalists Norwich University and St. Joseph's of Maine each placed two members on the All-Tournament team. From Norwich, Grace Fitzpatrick (8 goals, 5 assists, 8 groundballs, 11 draw controls, 8 caused turnovers), and Cheyene Mata-Notel (20 saves) were named to the team and for St. Joseph's, Cassie Diplock (8 goals, 10 groundballs, 4 draw controls, 3 caused turnovers)and Rachel Messuri (1 goal, 13 groundballs, 3 caused turnovers) were selected for their performances through two contests in the tournament.
