Women's Lacrosse Complete Perfect GNAC Season with Victory over St. Joseph's Conn.

Newton, Mass. (4/20/13) - The Lasell College women's lacrosse team concluded their regular season schedule with a 26-3 victory over the University of St. Joseph's (Conn.) to finish 9-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play and improve to 12-3 overall. The Blue Jays fell to 3-9 on the year and 1-8 in league action. Seniors Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, Mass) and Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, Mass.) were recognized before the game as they were playing their final regular season home game.

Rebecca Stanton and Taylor Dooley (Barnstable, Mass.) each scored five times in the contest for Lasell, with Stanton also adding an assist. Ashley Slattery scored four goals and dished out three assists, and Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) scored a pair of goals while handing out a game-high six assists. Sammy Long (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned the win in the cage for Lasell, making eight saves in the game.

Erika Leitao (Southington, Conn.) scored a pair of goals for the University of St. Joseph's and added an assist while Haley Tufano (Farmington, Conn.) scored the other Blue Jays goal. Brianna Tenore (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was credited with the loss in goal for USJ, recording five saves in the contest.

After Stanton scored the first goal of the game for Lasell, USJ netted a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead with 22:58 left in the first half. Lasell would take control of the game from there, scorin 13 consecutive goals to close the first half and take a 14-2 lead into the half.

The Lasers then opened the second half with seven more goals, running their streak of consecutive goals to 20 while taking a 21-2 lead on their way to a 26-3 victory.

Lasell will host a GNAC quarterfinal game on Wednesday April 24th at 3:30 pm a.m.
