Lasell Uses Second Half Outburst to Defeat Emerson in Women’s Lacrosse

Newton, Mass. (4/3/13) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team outscored Emerson College 11-3 in the second half to defeat Emerson 20-9 on Wednesday afternoon. Lasell remained undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play at 5-0 while improving to 8-2 overall, while Emerson slid to 5-6 on the season and 2-2 in league.

Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, Mass.) and Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) each scored six goals, while adding four and three assists respectively to help lead Lasell to victory. Caitlin Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) added three goals, and Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) and Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, Mass.) each chipped in a pair of markers. Sammy Long (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned her eighth win of the year in goal for the Lasers, making five saves on the afternoon.

Chelsea Phillips (Waterford, Conn.) scored four goals for Emerson and notched a pair of assists and Kanika Misra (Potsdam, N.Y.) netted twice for the Lions. Victoria Kanaris (Haworth, N.J.) made six saves and took the loss in goal for Emerson.

Emerson opened the game scoring three goals to open the game, putting Lasell behind 3-0 at the 25:56 mark in the first half. Slattery scored consecutive goals to steady the home side, and cut the Emerson lead to 3-2. Emerson's Phillips scored a pair of goals, sandwiched around a goal by Lasell's Wuorio to take a 5-3 lead with 21:28 left in the opening half.

Lasell scored four straight goals over the next ten minutes to take a 7-5 lead with 10:45 on the clock in the first half. After Alex Corrado (Sammamish, Wash.) finished on a free position shot to bring Emerson back within a goal, Slattery and Wuorio scored in the final 1:30 of the first half to take a 9-6 edge into the break.

Lasell then exploded in the second half, outscoring the visitors 11-3 in the second half to pick up the 20-9 victory.

Lasell will travel to St. Joseph's of Maine on Saturday April 6th for a 3:00 p.m. match-up against the Monks.
