Wuorio and Slattery Lead Women's Lacrosse to 17-5 Win Against Norwich

Newton, Mass (3/27/13) – The Lasell women's lacrosse program remained undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play with their 17-5 win against Norwich University. The victory was the first for Lasell in the series between the two teams, as the Cadets had found themselves on the positive side of the scoring column in the previous nine meetings. The win moves the Lasers' record 6-2 overall, and 3-0 in the GNAC. Norwich falls to 0-3 on the year and 0-2 in conference action.

The Lasers were led by junior Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) and senior Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, Mass.) as each found the back of the net five times, while Wuorio lead all players with four assists and Slattery added three assists. Five other Lasers tallied at least one goal in the contest, including Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) and Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) who each tallied a pair.

Norwich was led by Gina Conroy (Amherst, N.H.) as who registered a hat trick on the evening, while Chandler Camlin (Stamford, Conn.) and Grace Fitzpatrick (Falmouth, Mass.) also contributed with a goal each.

The first half of action saw the Cadets take the lead, as they Fitzpatrick would score first 3:24 into game. The lead was short-lived though as the Laser attack would apply pressure that would result in Wuorio's first goal of the contest with 25:01 remaining in the stanza to tie the affair at 1-1.

Norwich would retaliate to retake control as Conroy scored her first of the contest. Goals by Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.) and Wuorio would help Lasell take a 3-2 led at the 16:43-mark. After some back and forth play the Cadets tied it at 3-3 after a Camlin score.

The Lasers offense would however step up and take over control of the game as goals Bri Daley and Caitlyn Brecher would give them the lead. A second goal by Conroy would make it 5-4 at the 9:39 mark, but the Lasers closed with goals by Wuorio, Slattery, and Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, Mass.) to make it 8-4 to end the first 30 minutes.

The Lasers scored the first three goals of the second stanza to take an 11-4 lead. Gina Conroy posted her third goal of the game at the 21:45 to make it 11-5 but the Lasers scored the final six goals of the contest to take the 17-5 victory.

Freshman Sammy Long (Staten Island, N.Y.) received the win stopping five of the 10 shots she faced, while Cheyenne Mata-Notel (East Hampton, N.Y.) made ten saves while taking the loss.

Norwich will return to action at home as they take on Colby-Sawyer on Friday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Lasell will resume conference action as they host cross-town rival, Mount Ida on Saturday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m.
