Women's Lacrosse Opens GNAC Play with Decisive Victory over Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. (03.16.13) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team saw 11 different players score en route to a 23-2 win over host Anna Maria College during a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at AMCAT Field on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Lasers to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in GNAC games while the AMCATS start the season 0-1 on the season and 0-1 in the GNAC.

The Lasers were paced by Ashley Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.), Lisi Anczok (Buffalo, N.Y.), and Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) who each contributed hat tricks. Freshman Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.) had a game-high five points on two goals and three assists.

AMCAT senior Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, MA) tipped the twine twice for AMC.

Lasell came out strong in the opened half scoring16 unanswered goals, including a pair from Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) and Bridget Doherty (Franklin, Mass.). Acosta's unassisted tally with 2:55 remaining in the half got the AMCATS on the board. 

Lasell controlled the second half outscoring the AMCATS 6-1 to seal the 23-1 victory.

Lasell netminder Sammy Long (Staten Island, N.Y.) made five saves in a half of work, and Michaela Doughty (Scituate, Mass.) stopped a pair of shots for the Lasers as well. Freshman Sarah Lathrop (Milford, MA) took the loss in goal for the AMCATS despite making 9 saves on the afternoon, including eight in the first half.

Anna Maria returns to action on Monday when they host Route 56 rival Becker College at 6 pm. Lasell will be back on the field on Tuesday Mar. 19th when they host Salem State University at 3:00 p.m.
