Wuorio and Slattery Lead Women's Lacrosse to Victory at Nichols College

Dudley, Mass. (3/12/13) – The Lasell College women's lacrosse defeated the Nichols College Bison on Tuesday afternoon. The Lasers improved to 2-1 on the season with the victory, while the hosts dropped to 0-2 in 2013.

Junior Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) tied a career-high with eight goals, adding a pair of assists for Lasell, and senior Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, Mass.) tallied six goals, three assists, and a game-high five ground balls in the victory. Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) netted a pair for Lasell to help the Lasers to a season-high 15 goals.  

Erica Atonison (Albertson, N.Y.) scored a team-high four goals for Nichols College, and Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) finished a pair of chances while grabbing 5 draw controls for the Bison.

Wuorio opened the scoring for Lasell, scoring on a feed from Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, Mass.) 55 seconds into the game, and the Lasers used goals from Slattery and Wuorio to build a 3-0 lead in the opening five minutes of play.

Nichols drew within a goal at 3-2 following goals by Atonison and Murphy with 17:35 left in the first half, but Lasell came right back as Wuorio and Slattery combined for three more goals to take a 6-2 lead.

Atonison netted her second of the game to cut the Lasell lead to 6-3 before five unanswered goals by Lasell stretched the visitors lead to 11-3. Nichols got one back with under a minute to play in the opening half to trim the Lasell lead to 11-4 at the break.

Wuorio tallied again to open the second stanza, helping Lasell keep their cushion as they outscored Nichols 4-2 over the final half to pick up the non-conference victory.

Sammy Long (Staten Island, N.Y.) made a career-high six saves while facing 12 shots on goal to earn her second victory of the season, AnneMarie Fana (Lawrence, Mass.) made eight saves for the Bison while taking the loss.

Nichols College will face-off against Emmanuel College on Monday Mar. 18th at 7:00 p.m. Lasell will be back in action on Thursday Mar. 13th when they travel to MIT for a 7:00 p.m. match-up under the lights.
