Women's Lacrosse Tops Saints to Remain Unbeaten in GNAC

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lasell College Lasers remained undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Lacrosse action on Tuesday night, handily topping the Saints of Emmanuel College, 23-4.  With the win, Lasell improves to 7-1 on the year, while Emmanuel drops to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Lasell got big numbers from two different players, who each recorded 7 points on the night.  The Lasers were led by 5 goals and 2 assists from leading scorer, Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) as well as junior Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA).  Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA) and Bridget Ryan (Chatham, NY) notched 4 goals apiece in the win.

The Lasers stormed out to an early lead, netting four goals in the opening five minutes of action, including two off of right-side clear-outs for Wuorio.  Two more Lasell markers in the sixth minute of action gave the visitors a 6-0 advantage.

Emmanuel got on the board with a free position goal by senior attacker Logan Carr (Saratoga Springs, NY).  After consecutive Laser goals by Stanton and Slattery, Carr struck again with an unassisted shot and Emmanuel trailed, 8-2, with six minutes to play in the half.

The Lasers would score two more times before the horn and took a 10-2 lead into the break at halftime.  Lasell led the Saints in first half shots, 19-7, and in ground balls, 14-7.

Coming out of the half, the Lasers got goals from Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, CT) and Erin Gertonson (Bayport, NY) to take a 12-2 lead.  Emmanuel junior middie Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, MA) then scored off an assist from Shannen Corrigan (Southington, CT) to set the score at 12-3.

The visitors dominated the next twenty minutes of action, scoring ten-straight times, including three goals from Slattery and 2 from sophomore midfielder Jen Lemoine (Trumbull, CT) to bring the spread to 22-3.

GNAC Rookie of the Week Alexia Basile (West Hartford, CT) buried a free position shot in the final minute for Emmanuel's fourth goal of the night.  The Lasers would then tack on one more before the clock expired for a final score of 23-4.

Freshman goalie Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, NH), who was named this week's GNAC Goalie of the Week, picked up her 7th win of the season, making 4 saves in the effort.  Emmanuel goalie, Hillary Dandurant (Merrimac, NH) played the full 60 minutes for the Saints and recorded 8 saves.
