Providence, R.I.- Sophomore attacker Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) posted six goals and three assists to guide Lasell to the victory, while classmate attacker Bridget Ryan (Chatham, NJ) added five goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) recorded four goals, an assist, and a game-high seven draw controls for the visitors. Senior attacker Molly Voyer (Lincoln, RI), sophomore midfielder Jessalyn O'Neill (North Providence, RI) and freshman attacker Jessica Ricci (Hope, RI) each finished with two goals and an assist as the Rhode Island College women's lacrosse team fell to Lasell College, 19-11, in their season opener at the RIC Lacrosse Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Lasers improve their record to 3-1 on the year with their third straight victory, while the Anchorwomen drop to 0-1 to start the 2012 campaign.

RIC fell into an early deficit as the Lasers controlled the first half, outshooting the hosts, 20-11, through the first 30 minutes. Lasell went into the break with a commanding, 12-3, lead.

However, the Anchorwomen responded with back-to-back goals following the intermission, courtesy of senior attacker Nicky Drolet (Somersworth, NH) and sophomore attacker Ashley Signoriello (Cranston, RI) to make it, 12-5, with 28:50 remaining.

After Ryan tallied a goal for the Lasers with 28:05, Rhode Island College added three consecutive goals over the next eight minutes, two from Voyer and one by Ricci, to make it just, 13-8, with 20:10 left to play. Yet, the Lasers buckled down offensively and notched five of the next six goals to put away Rhode Island College down the stretch.


Junior midfielder Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA) contributed with a pair of goals and four draw controls for the Lasers. Freshman Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, NH) earned the win (3-1) for the Lasers and improved her record to 3-1 on the year with a 10-save effort.

Junior midfielder Courtney McKiernan (Hope, RI) registered a goal to go along with a game-high five caused turnovers. Senior defender Jenna Childs (Cranston, RI) chipped in with a goal as well, while also corralling a team-high six draw controls and a team-high four ground balls.

Sophomore Taryn Carbone (Cranston, RI) picked up the loss in net for RIC, despite making a game-high 13 saves. She falls to 0-1 on the season.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Roger Williams on Tuesday, March 20th, while Lasell will host GNAC foe St. Joseph's College (ME) at 4pm on the 20th  of March as well.
