Lasell Uses Late Goal to Defeat Colby-Sawyer College, 13-12

Newton, MA – The Lasell College women's lacrosse team won a back and forth affair versus the visiting Chargers, getting a Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) goal with 4.2 seconds remaining to break a 12-12 tie. Britney Wuorio led the way for Lasell, scoring six goals and adding a pair of assists, while Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA) and Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, CT) chipped in with three and two goals respectively. Brittney Murphy (Woburn, MA) scored six goals for Colby-Sawyer College, including an unassisted goal with :35 seconds to play that tied the score at 12-12. Laurel Bauer (Bradford, NH) added 2 goals and one assist for the Chargers.

The Chargers outshot the hosts 27-18, and held a slight edge in draw controls and ground balls. CSC struggled to convert offensively, going 1-8 on free position opportunities and getting shut down by the outstanding play of freshman goalkeeper Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, NH) of Lasell. Katsigianis finished the day with 13 saves keeping the Lasers in the match and picking up her second victory of the year. Adrienne Bender (Wakefield, RI) took the loss in goal for the visiting Chargers. Lasell improved to 2-1 with the victory, while Colby-Sawyer College fell to 1-3 with the loss.

The Lasers got off to an early lead, building a 6-2 lead with less than 11 minutes left in the first half, only to watch CSC use a 4-1 run to cut the hosts lead to 7-5 at the half. Laurel Bauer scored :31 seconds into the second half evening the game at 7-7. Lasell responded with three straight goals to regain the lead at 10-7 with 23:06 to play in the game. Colby-Sawyer again answered with a 4-1 run, tying the game at 11-11 with less than seven minutes to play and setting up a frantic finish.

Lasell will return to action on Thursday March 15th when they travel to Rhode Island College for a 4pm tilt, while Colby-Sawyer will travel to Bridgewater State on March 17th for their fifth consecutive road game.
