Lasell Unable to Withstand Curry Rally in Women's Lacrosse Opener

Curry College defeated Lasell College, 14-12 on Wednesday in Milton, Mass.  With the win, the Colonels improved to 2-0 overall while the Lasers fell to 0-1 on the season. Sophomores Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) and Bridget Ryan (Chatham, NJ) each picked up four goals and one assist for Lasell, who also got a goal apiece from Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA), Jen Lemoine (Trumbull, CT), Erin Gertonson(Bayport, NY) and Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, CT). Ana Botary (Hull, MA) scored a game-high seven goals for the Colonels, who also got two goals apiece from Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, VT) and Haley Carey (New Milford, CT). Alexa Katsigianis picked up the loss but stopped 10 shots in her collegiate debut for Lasell, while Maria Lynch saved four shots to pick up the win for Curry.

The visiting Lasers' took a 6-5 lead into half, after a back and forth opening 30 minutes in which neither team had more than a two goal advantage. Lasell opened up the second period tallying two goals on free position shots by Wuorio to take an 8-5 lead with 27:41 to play. Curry cut the deficit to one, scoring two goals 21 seconds apart, making it an 8-7 game with 26:32 remaining. Lasell answered with three straight, getting goals from Lemoine, Ryan and Wuorio to build the game's biggest lead at 11-7 with 21:57 left in the second half.

The host Colonels came charging back, scoring six unanswered goals to take a 13-11 edge with 4:51 left to play. Ryan scored 43 seconds later to bring Lasell back to within one, but Curry answered with 1:48 on the clock to regain their two goal advantage. The Lasers were unable to convert on a pair of free position chances in the games' final two minutes, and fell 14-12.

The Colonels will travel to West Palm Beach, Florida to play New England College on Monday, March 12 for an 11:00 a.m. game time. Lasell will host Wellesley College on March 10 for a 12:00 p.m. start.
