Women’s Lacrosse Earns a 21-8 Victory on Senior Day

NEWTON, MA— All of Lasell’s senior women’s lacrosse players scored goals on their senior day during a 21-8 victory over the Rivier College Raiders, Saturday afternoon at Grellier Field.  The Lasers’ three seniors Andrea Ward (Hingham, MA), Amanda Martin (Lowell, MA), and Kristen Noble (West Milford, NJ) combined for six goals as the Lasers remained undefeated in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (2-0) and improved their overall record to 6-3.

Tina Canavan (Stonington, CT) was the Lasers’ top scorer for the third time this season.   The junior midfielder registered eight points, connecting with the Raider’s net six times and adding two assists.  Ward, Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) and Neila Kudla (Groton, MA) tallied four goals each, and Martin, Noble, and Karynne Cabral (Brookfield, CT) added one goal each.

Lindsay Cahoon (Falmouth, MA) was victorious in the Lasers’ net, good for her third season win.  The freshman goalie made seven saves in 45 minutes.

The Raiders were led by freshman attack Lauren Brett (Otisfield, ME), who scored five times. Bridget Emerson (Goffstown, NH), Natalie Bonvie (Salem, NH), and Alyssa Renaud (Goffstown, NH) netted one goal apiece for Rivier.   Lauren Hall (Pelham, NH) was charged with the defeat in the Raiders cage.

Brett tallied the first mark 2:09 into the first half, giving the visitors an early edge.  Ward struck just two minutes later for the Lasers, knotting the score at one.  Canavan and Kudla followed with goals, and the Lasers gained the lead for good with just 6:41 elapsed in the period.   Ward would record the game-winning goal at the 19 minute mark, taking the pass out of Canavan’s stick.  Slattery notched the final goal of the half with 33 seconds on the clock, giving Lasell a commanding 16-7 advantage at the break.

Slattery found the back of the Raiders net just nine seconds into the second stanza, to kick off Lasell’s 5-1 run in the second period.  Brett attacked for Rivier’s only goal midway through the frame, but it was Noble who was the final Laser to score, putting in her first goal of the season with 3:36 left to play.

The Lasers next contest will be on the road at Emerson College on Wednesday, March 31st, at 4:00 p.m.
