Mount Ida Zaps Lasers 14-8

Newton Center, MA – The Lasell College Lasers fell to neighboring rival Mount Ida College, 14-8, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game on Monday afternoon. Andrea Ward (Hingham, MA) put out a top performance for the Lasers with four goals and six draw controls in the loss. 

 

After the defeat, Lasell lands at a 7-6 mark this season and equalizes to 3-3 in GNAC play. The Mustangs improved their overall record to 7-4, also with an even 3-3 conference slate.

 

Mount Ida quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead just 13 minutes into the contest. Jemima Lauriston (Taunton, MA) scored the first goal of the game to give the hosts a 1-0 lead four minutes into the contest. Five minutes later Jen Thompson (Easton, MD) scored her first of nine total goals to give Mount Ida a 2-0 advantage. Thompson would go on to score three more goals in the span of four minutes to increase the Mustang lead to 5-0.

 

Ward put the Lasers on the board at the 14:11 mark of the first half on a free possession shot. Ward then added another goal, along with a goal by senior Kristen Noble (West Milford, NJ) by the end of the first half. The Mustangs would go into the break with a commanding 9-3 lead.

 

The Lasers opened the second half with a goal by April McGrath (Willow Grove, PA) just a minute and 40 seconds in, set up by Noble.  Noble then assisted again on a Karynne Cabral (Brookfield, CT) tally within the next two minutes.

 

Ward struck two more times before the end of the game, and Riley Fickett (Nottingham, NH) also found the back of the Mustang’s net for her first goal of the season.

 

Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) passed off three total assists in the game.  Rookie goalkeeper Lindsay Cahoon (Falmouth, MA) recorded six first half and seven second half saves in the full sixty minutes in the Lasers net.

 

The Lasers have three final regular season contests left, starting with a non-conference tilt with Becker College on Wednesday, April 14th.  The Hawks and the Lasers meet at 4:00 p.m. at Becker.
