Lasers Race Past St. Joe's CT on Senior Day

Newton, Mass. - Andrea Ward (Hingham, Mass.) and Caitlyn Murphy (Katonah, NY) each scored four times and totaled five points apiece as the Lasers raced past the Saint Joseph's Connecticut women's lacrosse team 17-2, on the Lasers senior day.  Lasell celebrated their five women's lacrosse players, Murphy, Cassandra Haase (Rindgewood, NJ), Valentina Hernandez (Jamaica Plain, Mass.), Erika McGrath (Saco, ME), and Kendall Barreiro (Ossining, NY),  who are playing in their final season in Laser uniforms.

Murphy gave Lasell the early lead as she scored on a penalty just 2:54 into the contest.  She then assisted Tina Canavan's (Stonington, Conn.) first tally 19 seconds following to increase their early advantage.  Meredith Hessler (Middetown, RI) fired in the game winner on another free possession shot in the 24th minute.

Lasell raced away with a 12-1 halftime lead with Ward connecting on three shots, Canavan and Murphy each hitting two more, and Hessler, Herndandez, and Lexi Giatrelis (Mashpee, Mass.) all notching one goal.

Emily Johnson (Avon, Conn.) scored the Blue Jays only goal of the half just under ten minutes into the first, on a penalty possession.

Ward opened the second half eight minutes into the stanza, off a pass from Canavan.  Saint Joseph's Amelia DeDufour (Woodbury, Conn.) recorded the sole Blue Jay mark in the second, once again unassisted.  Barreiro, Murphy, and Jenna Stitt (Auburn, NH) clocked the final three goals for Lasell.

The Lasers came out on top of the draw control 13 times, with Hessler collecting four.  Johnson led the charge for the Blue Jays with three total controls.  Johnson also had six ground balls in the contest, as did Murphy for the Lasers.
