Second Half Surge Propels Lasers Past Pine Manor

Chestnut Hill, Mass.- Lasell's women's lacrosse team improved their overall record to 7-5, and their Great Northeast Athletic Conference slate to 3-2 after a securing at 13-6 win at Pine Manor College.  Senior captain Caitlyn Murphy (Katonah, NY) tallied five goals in the game on six shots to lead the way for the Lasers.

 

Tina Canavan (Stonington, Conn.) started things off for the lasers with a quick by controlling the draw and shooting down field for a quick goal just 35 seconds into the contest.  Senior Kendall Barreiro (Ossining, NY) put the Lasers up 2-0 after securing a rebound off a previous Lasell shot and firing in her first goal of the day.

 

The Gators responded at the hands of Beth Deegan who put in Pine Manor's first mark at 24:51, but Murphy answered back going the length of the field to score.

 

Pine Manor inched their way back into the contest, closing in on a 5-6 deficit with just under eight minutes in the period, but Lasell's freshman midfielder Lexi Giatrelis (Mashpee, Mass.) shot in two more goals before the half to give Lasell a comfortable 8-5 lead.

 

After the intermission, Murphy caught fire, tallying three goals while the Lasers were man-down with penalties.  Andrea Ward (Hingham, Mass.)  found the back of the net with 9:01 remaining, and Murphy finished the Lasers' scoring with her final tally at 7:28. 

 

Pine Manor marked their last goal by Stephanie Ludwig with under four minutes to play, closing out the game 13-6 Lasell.

 

With just three regular season games to play in 2009, the Lasers will travel to Framingham state on Tuesday, April 14th for a non-conference matchup with the Rams.  Game time is 4:30 p.m.
