Women’s Lax Falls to Norwich in GNAC Semi Finals

Northfield, VT- Andrea Ward (Hingham, Mass.) scored four times while Caitlyn Murphy (Katonah, NY) tallied five points for the Lasers on Wednesday, but it was not enough as the Cadets of Norwich University ran away with a 22-11 women's lacrosse win in the GNAC tournament quarter finals.  The Lasers finish their season at 9-7, while Norwich moves onto the championship game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Coderre (Monson, Mass.) made 15 saves in net for Lasell, while also picking up a game-best 12 groundballs. Murphy also contributed 6 draw controls in the contest, and Meredith Hessler (Middletown, RI) scored twice and assisted another.  Tina Canavan (Stonington, Conn.) attributed for the last two Laser goals.

The Cadets came out strong going on a 7-0 run in the first eleven minutes.  Canavan was the first to score for Lasell, at 18:51, followed by Ward just a minute later.  Ward would score twice more in the half, as would Hessler, and a Murphy tally left Lasell behind 15-7 at halftime.

Murphy opened the second half connecting on a penalty shot, but Norwich answered with three more goals.   Canavan broke up their streak with her second mark, but the Cadets continued their attack.  Four more goals were scored before Lasell finished the day with the final two shots, scored by Murphy and Ward.

Lasell finished the year third overall in the GNAC, with a 4-2 record.
