Murphy & Maggio Earn ECAC New England All-Star Nods

 

   

Newton, MA- The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced their All-Stars for the 2009 men's and women's lacrosse season and two Lasell College athletes were honored as part of the New England Regional Teams.  Mike Maggio, a senior midfielder from Winchester, Massachusetts was selected to the ECAC men's lacrosse first team, while Caitlyn Murphy, a senior attack from Katonah, New York, was selected to the ECAC women's lacrosse second team. 

Both Maggio and Murphy led the Lasers all season long on their respective teams, both on the field and off.  Both served as team captains, both were selected to the All-Conference first team in each of their leagues, and both led the Lasers statistically in multiple categories this year.

Maggio led the Lasers this season in assists and was second for Lasell in points and goals.  Maggio also had the individual game highs for points, goals, and assists during the 2009 season.  Maggio finished the season with 44 points, scoring 27 goals and adding 17 assists, ranking himself 4th in assists, 8th in points, and 9th in goals per game in the Pilgrim League.  Maggio is also ranked in the NCAA in the top 200 nationally in each of those categories.

Maggio leaves Lasell after four years with 95 goals, 40 assists, and 135 total points, placing him 6th all-time in goals, 8th all-time in assists, and 7th all-time in total points at the College.  Maggio also currently holds the Lasers all-time record for most career game-winning goals.

Murphy found her spot on the ECAC All-Star team after an incredible season, leading the Lasers to their best team record since joining the NCAA.  This season, Murphy led Lasell in goals, with 71, and points, with 82.  She scored four game winning goals in 2009, and was GNAC Player of the Week three times.  She finished the 2009 season ranked 11th nationally in the NCAA for goals per game, averaging 4.57, 34th for total goals, and 85th for points.

Murphy played and scored points in 58 consecutive games for the Lasers over four years, scoring 240 goals, adding 46 assists, for a total of 286 career points, placing her second in Lasell's All-Time stats in each of these categories.  Murphy was selected NEWLA Rookie of the Year in 2006, co-player of the Year by the GNAC in 2008, and first team All-GNAC in 2008 and 2009.  Murphy also was selected to the GNAC All-Tournament team in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
