Lasers Make it Two in a Row with 16-1 win Over Eagles

Newton, Mass.-  Lasell took their second win in a row with a 16-1 women's lacrosse victory over the Eagles of Daniel Webster College today on Grellier Field.   The Lasers are now 2-3 this season, while the Eagles begin their first year as an NCAA program at 0-1.  Ten Lasers scored points in the contest, with Meredith Hessler (Middletown, RI) leading the pack with six points, scoring two goals and four assists.

 

Caitlyn Murphy (Katonah, NY) notched the first goal just twelve seconds into the game as Hessler took control of the draw and fired a pass down field to Murphy who turned and scored.  Lexi Giatrelis (Mashpee, Mass.) found the back of the net just eleven seconds after that as she ducked the Eagles defense to score unassisted.

 

Murphy, Hessler, Chelsea Caren (Redding, Conn.), and Tina Canavan (Stonington, Conn.) each scored twice more before the break and Giatrelis and Andrea Ward (Hingham, Mass.) each tallied marks before end of the half.  The teams headed into intermission with a12-0 Laser lead.

 

After the break, freshman midfielder Shawna Kavanaugh (Abington, Mass.) recorded the Eagles first ever goal off a free position shot at 22:24 in the second half, marking Daniel Webster's only goal.

 

Hessler then assisted on the next three goals starting with Kendall Barreiro (Ossining, NY) and followed by two by Erika McGrath (Saco, ME).  Sheila Johnson (Hyde Park, VT) finished the offensive attack by Lasell with 18 seconds left in regulation.

 

Daniel Webster's goalkeeper, Jenny Ozug (Westport, Mass.) was kept busy making 9 saves in the net for the Eagles.  Lasell's keeper, Kristin Coderre (Monson, Mass.) collected her second win of the season in goal.

 

The Laser are back in home action on Friday, March 20th at 3:30 p.m. when they begin GNAC competition against Simmons College on Grellier Field.
